Jeff was driven by a passion to bring together Hoosiers through the shared love of fishing, conservation, and the arts, the Flybrary Project is a truly unique initiative. Inspired and guided by the great folks at Tailer Trash Fishing and their creation of the original Flybrary Project, our mission is to create public art pieces in accessible locations, inviting the community to "Take-A-Fly and Leave-A-Fly," much like a communal pantry.
We are currently working on gaining approval from parks departments in Hamilton and Marion Counties, as well as the cities to the North and South. The Flybrary Project has already garnered support from numerous local conservation, arts, and other organizations, all contributing to making this vision a reality.
Our goal is to install Flybraries in public parks, constructed by local woodworkers, adorned by local artists and the community, and stocked by local fly makers and fishing guides. These communal hubs will feature the logos and information of all contributing groups, raising awareness of local efforts and resources.
Upon completion, each Flybrary location will be listed on the national registry. Known to attract travelers who go upwards of 30 minutes out of their way to visit and capture photos for social media, these installations can significantly boost local business.
By making each Flybrary a permanent art installation, we aim to encourage people to explore the parks and highlight the incredible efforts of the individuals and organizations making a positive impact in our area.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
We are actively collaborating with Noblesville, Marion, Bloomington, and other towns across Indiana to bring the Flybrary Project to life. Our next targets include Indianapolis, Carmel, Westfield, and Fishers. We have also confirmed some certain locations to the South including the Monroe Tailwaters, Fairfax Beach, and Brookville. If you have a location you'd like to see included, please reach out and leave a message.
The first prototype box is currently complete and in the process of going around our partners for feedback. The second box is awaiting paint from local artist India Hines. Be sure to check out our story and interview with Fly Life Media and on The Casting Faith Podcast (click the picture above).
We're also in the process of securing donations, funding, and volunteer support. Collections and fundraisers will kick off in January, featuring in-person events where you can help decorate the Flybrary boxes before they find their permanent homes. These funds will go towards concrete, posts, and restoration/restocking of the boxes with a small percentage also being donated to HCAA for all of the help and support with the project.
Our first fundraising event and silent auction is currently slated for 5 P.M. on April 19th. The event be held at the Bier Brewery in Noblesville located at 1618 S. 10th Street, Noblesville, IN 46060. Come join us for an evening of fun, food, friends, and a silent auction (from our wonderful donors below plus some extra goodies).
Below, you'll find a list of organizations and small businesses that are making this project a reality and helping to unite our community. Please explore each of these incredible partners to discover how you can contribute, volunteer, or find your next purchase.
